✌ 12/14 9:15am

It has already been a busy morning.  This ICU room has been like a busy freeway, people hustling and bustling their way through to examine, listen to and medicate Ethan.  They have lifted some of Ethan's sedation.  He is still very sleepy but there is almost no delirium.  That is good. However, he is now more awake and trying to talk.  Talking is just mouthing things to me and me having to guess. We have established that we will never be partners in a game of charades because I suck at it.

Ethan has been very curious of what his machines are for, he asked to be sat up and his eyes look slightly better than before.  If I am sitting on the window seat, he knows he can whack his hand on the bed to get my attention. He will try to mouth what he needs.  He does it so fast and makes super long sentences.  It is impossible to figure out.  I keep saying "one word at a time".  Today we are going to use a letter board but I am not sure how well he sees since he is still on sedation and multiple eye drops for the corneal abrasions.

He will ask a question and sometimes fall asleep before the answer.  Or he will ask a question and mid ask, I will watch his eyes roll in the back of his head.

These are the days that are exhausting because every movement I am standing up to see if he is coherent or delirious.  Even just to type an update has taken well over 2 hours.  It is interrupted with me attending to Ethan or talking to someone that has come into the room.

Ethan has been getting agitated enough that he is giving himself a fever.  It is short lived and when he settles down, the fever goes down as well. I am assured the next several days will be like this. He did ask for me to set up his fan because he was hot, so we now have the fan aimed right at him blowing his hair like he is a supermodel.

We will see what will unfold today.  Hopefully we will keep moving forward.💪💪

  1. Before today he was testing your emotional and mental stability. Now Mom, it is your physical stability he is going to test. We all know that you are Super Mom so you are up for the workout. Tonight you will be really tired and can close your eyes and pretend you are at a spa. We are having our prayers answered with all of this new activity. Keep it up and look at all of the "gifts" that are coming his way. Love you

  2. Patti,
Amid all of this medical stuff and watching your son, your sense of humor lifts the seriousness of the situation. It might be a difficult week but keep up your sense of humor. It helps for those of us following his journey too. You are an amazing Mom. My prayers for a tolerable week and continued improvement.

  3. This sounds so incredibly frustrating for both of you. I am sending lots and lots of good wishes to you both. It must be so hard to have all that flurry of people around you and to be constantly watching Ethan's every move. I hope you can take some breaks. Love always....
