So I found myself on the CDC website researching things to be aware of. Turns out mosquitos carry a couple diseases prevalent there. The more I read, not only is a bug spray going to be a mandatory part of my daily routine, I am ordering some citronella soap too. And maybe citronella oil as well as deet. Some of the illnesses cause flu like symptoms.

Also, forward on the beach will be a must for me. I saw that there were cases of hookworms reported. Hookworms like sandy soil and burrow through your feet. No thank you!

Crime isn’t bad there. Pick pocketing happens, however, if you travel smart, the thrives stay away. If you stop every so often and pretend you are covered in bugs, thieves think you are crazy and stay away. This is a trick my brother taught me in my teens.

Camouflage is illegal as it can be confused with the military’s uniform. Paul will need to get an international driver’s license prior to travel, to be able to rent a car. He will get to experience the backwards driving (they drive on the opposite side of the road) that I did while in Turks and Caicos. Just small little tips and tricks I was reading about.

I like to think that preparing for a vacation is part of the fun. It adds to the culture we are learning about. This is the only way I am going to learn geography. However, the other part of the culture is the 2 minute walk to the beach we will have. Excellent.

Today I took one step forward and two steps back with everything I did at work. That is so annoying.

Ethan is finishing his last week this week at his apprenticeship. Yay! He said he had a good day today.

Paul stayed hours late at work to work on a car. I didn’t even see him but for a few minutes this morning. He will be home long after I am sleeping. He enjoys that stuff.

We will spend time together this weekend as it is the last trip of the season. The dogs will be so sad. We will then prepare our camper for its winter slumber. I took next Monday off to allot for the unpacking for the year.

Tomorrow is the meeting with the psychiatrist to find out more about if they will add a medication to help Ethan have more clarity with his thoughts and gain some focus. He is entering this cautiously. I am proud that he voiced that he wanted help. He feels like he is being heard as he explores this. It is nice he has a professional that will help him explore solutions.

His therapist wanted to meet afterward at 12:30 for a regular visit, but I told her that Ethan only gets a half hour for lunch. We will need to reschedule her appointment for another day. I am really trying to be thoughtful of Ethan’s time and his work’s attendance policy.

I have started collecting sticks in the yard and set them aside in our garage for kindling. I feel like a gatherer as we prepare for the wood burning stove season. I will thank myself later for this. Do something kind for your future self. 😊
