So Lucy has stumped me again. I have just given up trying to contain her. She is now able to Houdini her way out of the cage. I am now just leaving the door open for her to have a warm bed and food/fresh water.
Today, even though I tried to block off the hole to escape the screened in porch, she escaped anyway. I noticed she was gone and walked outside to find her. I called her and heard her click back at me. I saw movement in our Japanese maple tree. Poof! Like magic, she appeared. She crawled onto my hand and onto my shoulder but I encouraged her to go back to the tree.
I left the area to the screened in porch blocked off. I figured she felt she was ready to venture off, so let’s do this how she wants to.
A few hours later, I checked in again and saw this:
Lucy had found her way back into the screened in porch and tucked herself in between two blankets for a nap. She stayed in her cage for several hours with the door open. Snug as a bug in a rug. How does she know to do that? She is here to teach me things, I just know it.
I went to eat with a friend and Ethan sent me a video of him walking around the house with her running along after him. She eventually made it back to her open cage. I told Ethan that we may have a porch squirrel.
At a friend’s suggestion, I bought a winter hat with fuzzy warm material inside that would be easy for Lucy to snuggle in for the evening. Her street smarts are impressing me.
I have been experimenting with different flowers, nuts, berries, leaves, pine cones, and sticks for her to taste to get an open palette for what she likes to eat.
Moe was PISSED that he couldn’t eat her. He watched from the house as she shook her tail at him. I swear he rolled his eyes at me as he pouted that I would’t let him put the squirrel in his mouth.
He was VERY upset at the lack of squirrel in his diet.
I was glad it was Friday today. I adjusted my schedule next week to include “admin” time to go through my emails and candidates before my interviewing marathons started. I will see how the new schedule works for me.
My dinner with my friend was much welcomed. I haven’t seen her in many weeks. We shared our summer stories and enjoyed the evening. I looked forward to seeing her. We ended up going to a local bar after dinner so we had more time to chat. It was fun.
Paul is working on a project this weekend while I plan to meal prep and clean. I might even decorate for fall.
