6/20/24

This morning I woke up and had coffee with my Aunt and Uncle. Camp life is hard.

I took a shower and took the dogs for a walk as my hair dried. I misjudged this sequence of events as the sun was out and HOT.

It wasn’t even 8:30 and I was sweating like a whore in church. I sat outside in the shade with the dogs for the next two hours enjoying the dogs, birds and nature’s version of quiet.

I put on my bird app like a geek and caught some new birds that I had to look up. Without a bird feeder, I rely on the trees to lure in different sources of birds.

Work was pretty good today. My coworkers keep me entertained in our group chat. I think the are secretly comedians in disguise.

I had a leadership meeting that discussed financial well being and how that affects planning, the ability to grow a business and how others are doing things. I enjoy hearing successes and pitfalls of other vet practices and leaders.

Paul was working too but also had time to work on the deck we are building. I say “we” but my part in this was finding the materials and a way to pay for them. Paul did all the rest of the work. It looks amazing. He has proven his Italian-ness by his showcase of carpentry skills.

We made sure the dogs had fun camping with several walks where they were able to run off leash, chase birds they will never catch as well as pee on things.

We ended the day with a campfire. The weather has been beautiful, the lake calm with the exception of a brief shower that passed.

I was able to pin point a day next week to pick up the newest addition to our family. The kids seem engaged. They are adults with their own lives, but animals teach us so much that I want to make sure they are part of this new adventure.

Avery called and shared some of the things that happened with her research project. I think her biggest take home message from this summer is that we can’t be perfect while learning. We can’t be perfect EVER! It’s ok to make mistakes and people don’t hate you for it.  If they do, that is their problem.

She had a few things that happened that she felt she could have done better. The ability to self reflect is crucial. That’s when we learn the most about ourselves and grow as humans.

Ethan is enjoying his time alone, but I know he misses Jiminy. He is holding the fort down (with his friends). He is responsible. We don’t worry he is going to throw a big raging party or anything.

All and all, this was a great day!

  1. I'm going to channel your calm, positive vibes into my Friday at work. My camp week one with 70 children is almost done. Seven more camp weeks to go! I might be getting too old for this job. xoxo
