We have a friend from out of town that is currently undergoing cancer treatment at the hospital in Rochester. She is there for a few more days before she is able to be released.
I went to visit her to break up the day a little bit. We ended up chatting away, laughing and sharing life with one another.
We talked about a lot of different things. One of the things we talked about is how things seem to happen for a reason.
There have been a series of events that have unfolded in her life over the past few months. Things they never would have anticipated. These things have all proven to be an asset to have happened, especially with this recent diagnosis. As she spoke, there were a few “the stars aligned” moments, without her even realizing it.
Sometimes life puts you where you need to be without you even knowing.
Her family gets back in town Wednesday. She did say she doesn’t love being by herself all day. She is staying busy with books to read and doing things for her job (which she will be out of work for several weeks).
Tomorrow I told her we would have dinner together. I am bringing Wegmans subs. She doesn’t have a Wegman’s near her house so she has never had one. This will be a real treat!
I did have a frustrating day at work navigating my ethics vs. legal obligations. I decided my coping skill was going to be to ignore it until tomorrow. I will be better equipped to deal with it after a good nights sleep.
Avery called and said Jiminy is loving college life. He slept through all his classes. He is going to be a drop out! That’s ok, we still love him.
Little Miss Perfectionist Avery, is learning that it’s ok to barely pass a test. She beats herself up over it. She doesn’t even know what a beautiful person she is.
Her teacher, Mr. Crabby pants, pulled her aside and let her know that he doesn’t think her grade reflects her knowledge in his class. She is convinced this guys hates her. He encouraged her to do the extra credit to improve her grade. Not a Crabby Pants thing to do at all. He was trying to help her. That is something that someone who cares would do. He sees her potential. She needed to hear that and she appreciated that.
We talked about how college/school is so weird. It is not reflective of life at all. You have these tests where you need to know calculations and formulas by heart. There is really no profession that doesn’t encourage using your resources to get the job done.
If I need to do math, I break out the calculator on my phone. I don’t do long division by hand and make sure that I show my work. Perspective is key!
