I waited the full 48 hours for a MyChart response from the kidney team regarding a kidney biopsy. I then called and spoke with a nice lady who is going to elevate my question regarding rejection to the doctor. I am trying to give the benefit of the doubt as she was out of the office last week.
We all know the punishment of being out of the office and coming back to a pile of work waiting for us.
The doctor called fairly quickly. We made a plan for Ethan. He will get his heart biopsy. If the comes back as there is rejection, Ethan will be treated and we will not do the kidney biopsy. Even if the kidney is also in rejection the treatment for the heart will also treat the kidney. If the heart biopsy comes back negative we will move forward with the kidney biopsy.
I am satisfied with this solution. I think it is the most non-invasive solution to support Ethan and his health.
So now we wait until next week to see what the verdict is.
Ethan has noticed he is having episodes of feeling light headed and faint. They have been happening since January. In July he brought it up to the doctor with minimal concern as they seemed to coincide with when he was really hungry. He was told to chart on a calendar when the episodes happen. He says they have increased in frequency but still maybe once a week.
He did some reading and found that although rare, it could be a sign of rejection. That is the only thing that feels a little off to him.
Rejection is a scary thing. It throws a bunch of balls in the air to juggle. I am cautiously optimistic that things will be ok.
Ethan doesn’t seem too concerned and is more annoyed that he will miss work. He is also concerned about the cost of a biopsy since his insurance has changed. He is worried he will forever be independent debt financially.
Someone recently asked me “when does it end?” Unfortunately, it won’t. It doesn’t end ever. This is the cycle we will continue to live. The alternative is far worse.
Ethan continues to move forward exploring other career options and getting himself set up for a career path as an electrician student. My cousin has been helpful guiding him through it. It is nice to have an electrician on your side when you are just starting out.
Ethan shared some of his answers on his application for an apprenticeship for electrician. We worked on rewording things for a more “polished” flow to his answers. It was a good exercise to tweak what he had written.
I had dinner with my Mom this evening. It was a nice visit. We were giggling at the conversation at the next table over. The people were entertaining.
I had a wonderful compliment at work today. One of my Hospital Managers I had worked with a year ago, recently gained me back as a recruiter. He had forgotten. Once he realized his words were “OMG! Patti, how could I forget? You are a legend!”
😬 those are big shoes to fill but it felt good to hear! Now I can’t let him down. Ha ha!
