8/2/25

I woke up yesterday morning with excitement for Avery. I went to physical therapy and “worked out” my back. Not such a good plan on moving day.

When I returned home, I logged into work briefly to do a few things. I also had some coffee. Avery and I were chatting, she wanted to make sure that we left the house with plenty of time to arrive at the office at the apartment complex, so we weren’t late.

She said that she wanted to arrive a little bit early because she was one minute late in February when they signed the lease. she didn’t like how myself and the leasing agent made fun of her for being one minute late. She has held onto this for months on end and now wants to make sure that she arrives early.

Her desired departure time would’ve put us at the leasing office at 8:45 in the morning when our appointment was at 9 o’clock.

I had a few things to catch up on for work so I told her that we would leave in 10 minutes.

Which would have given us an arrival time of 8:55.

I shared with Avery that the only reason I teased her about being one minute late is because that was the worst thing I could point out. She should rejoice in the fact that is the minuscule thing I picked up on. She is a perfectionist at heart. I try to help her realize no one is perfect. She is just really good at doing well.

Avery was stressed and wanted to make a good impression. After the 10 minutes went by I jumped up and said “it’s time to go! It’s time to go get you your apartment” .

We put our shoes on and we walked out to the car. My car was closer to the house than Avery‘s car was, so I quickly got in my car turned it on and said “I’m gonna beat you and the lady is gonna know that you were late” and then I immediately put the car in drive and drove out of the driveway. I was laughing all the way to the apartment complex because I knew it would piss Avery off.

We arrived at the apartment complex pretty much the same time. I got out of my car and I waited for her to exit her car. We started walking in together and I made sure to speed up my walk so I would be the first one through the door. Avery was laughing and told me I was an asshole. We both were laughing and joking and it was a fun morning.

We got the keys the unit 705 and started our workout routine of carrying everything up to the apartment. It was on the second floor. Everything had to be carried up a flight of stairs.

Kendall’s family arrived Kendall’s’s mom, dad and brother were there helping to unload their things.

Avery still had things in her townhouse on campus, so once our cars were empty, we both headed over there to get a couple loads of her belongings. Avery‘s bathroom was disgusting so I ended up cleaning it while she packed up the rest of her things and loaded them into the car. We got most of it, but there’s still a few things left

By this time, I was hungry so I stopped by Wegmans and got lunch for everybody. I brought it over and everyone took a break from unloading unpacking and going up those stupid stairs. My legs were jelly.

Myself, Kendall‘s dad and Kendall’s mom all have some sort of ailment that we’re dealing with. Mine is my back, Kendall’s dad was his back and Kendall’s mom has a bad knee that she has to get Cortisone injections for.

We were kind of broken after a long morning of moving. We all left in the early afternoon. This would give Avery and Kendall time to unpack some things and make room for their bed

I picked up groceries, made a stop at Goodwill to drop things off and went home. I let the dogs out and noticed that Moe was chewing on his foot. Weird.

I then noticed when he stood, he wasn’t putting as much weight on that foot. I made him lay down and I went through the webs of his toes looking for something that could be bothering him.

I saw a black dot where his big foot pad met his skin. I picked and it and pulled out a large thorn. Awe! Poor guy. He hadn’t been out much during the day and likely picked this up last night when he was running in the field.

I opened some mail. We got a notice of “overpayment” from SSDI that says Ethan owes them $12,200. Oh…just $12,200? That is like a third of his earnings per year without taxes. This is going to be a headache to resolve. I see phone calls in my future. Grrrrrr.

We still had to move the bed over which is a king size bed and some more furniture. Paul was smart and rented a very small U-Haul truck, which we were able to utilize all of the space

The bed was a “bitch” for lack of a better term. It was a king size bed, and it was heavy. It took Avery, Paul and Kendall to bring it down our stairs and load it into the truck. It took Avery, Paul, Kendall, and myself to carry it into the apartment, we were all sweating. We were all swearing, but we got the bed into the apartment . Yay.

By this point, Avery had let the lady know that she was buying the couch from that we were going to be coming to pick it up shortly. I excused myself as I was done moving things for the day my body said enough is enough.

Paul and Avery headed over to the ladies house. It took the three of them to load this couch onto the truck. By the time Paul got home he had already made the executive decision that he and Avery and Kendall could not haul this couch up to the apartment by themselves and they needed back up.

Paul phoned in to my cousin ANDY and he agreed to help in the morning. I headed off to bed around 8:45 PM.

In the morning, I woke up in every inch of my body was sore. I felt like I got hit by a Mack truck. I stood up to assess my pain level. I was mostly sore. There was not any nerve pain which was exciting. I did some stretching it took some Tylenol and started working on the disaster that is our house right now.

I threw a pork tenderloin in the crockpot for dinner and meal prepping later.  I finished some laundry that Avery needed done. I started cleaning Avery’s bedroom so that I could set it up for Sarah when she comes on Wednesday.

I vacuumed. I put things away. I cleaned and I ordered my groceries to be picked up for later in the afternoon. My plan was to go to my Mom’s and visit with my brother and sister-in-law. Then I could stop and drop things off to Avery, go to Goodwill (yes…again) and make some donations and then pick up my groceries.

I also had to head over to my aunt’s house to pick up a table and some chairs that she and my uncle are giving gifting to Avery and Kendall .

When I arrived at my aunt and uncle’s  house, I realized that their basement was flooding. Water was coming into my sneakers as I walked on the rug, squish squish squish. The water was pooling around my shoes with each step.

I saw a carpet cleaner in the basement and started sucking up the water. I took out about 50 gallons of water before I had to leave to complete my errands this afternoon and pick up my groceries.

Paul stayed behind and started tearing up the  carpet.  We had a few inappropriate jokes about this activity.

He was the for well over 3 hours. I dropped the table off to Avery and Kendall (ugh! More stairs), grabbed my groceries and drove them home to put them away.

I returned back to my aunt and uncles to help Paul. He was just finishing up.

He went on to work to catch up on somethings. I went home and started the sides for my meal prepping. I was able to make 24 meals as well as a large batch of Chex mix (low sodium edition).

I am now off to bed before 9 pm. It has been an exhausting 2 days.

  1. First, Yay Avery and Kendall! Second, this SSDI business. Many people are getting bills for their SS saying they owe over $8,000. My girlfriend got a job and knew she was going to make over what the maximum is and did what they told her to do. She called and canceled her SS payments. Now they say she owes them over 8 grand. This is ridiculous!!

    1. It really is ridiculous! It is quite inefficient and panicking inducing! Ethan is beside himself over it.
