my father in law was finally seen by a doctor. He was in pain for hours. The doctor came in after midnight. It turns out he has gall stones and needs to have surgery to remove his gall bladder.
They started him on antibiotics. It then was after 1:00 am and they weren’t sure if he would have a room by morning. I took Joanne back to her house around 2 am.
I told her that if she wanted to have a sleep over, there was a better way to go about it than this. It made her laugh. She is very anxious and I tried to lighten the mood.
I explained that in the grand scheme of things, a gall bladder removal is a pretty good ailment to have. It can be treated. Once treated, he will never get another gallstone. It wasn’t cancer. It wasn’t a bowel blockage that would require risky bowel surgery. Of all the things that could have gone wrong, this one is best case scenario!
I got a quick 2-3 hours of rest before getting up and heading back to the hospital. I dropped Joanne off with instructions to grab breakfast and a coffee for herself.
I headed to my dentist appointment at 8:00 at the opposite side of the city. I didn’t have coffee and was quite dumb. I hope no one noticed at the dentist’s office.
I have never heard anyone say “I am so excited to go to the dentist.” No one likes going to the dentist. I actually like my dentist office. They are so good there. But I don’t enjoy having work done on my teeth.
My dental hygienist is absolutely wonderful. She is one that Paul teased me that I was “dating” her when we first met because I told her that I thought she was funny and asked her to go to dinner and have drinks with me. That was 15 years ago. She had a Jiminy too! In fact I stole the name from her dog.
The same thing happened with Heather. I thought she was funny and asked her to come to my dorm room and watch a movie with me. Ha!
I got home from the dentist and beelined to the coffee. I was so happy to hold my cup and sip it. It dribbled down my face as I mimicked a stroke victim with the Novocain. I had to change my shirt….twice! It was worth it.
I not only was on the struggle bus, I was the driver today! Coffee stained shirts…(plural) and all.
After work, I picked up groceries. I was excited to roast a big batch of vegetables. Sarah came over and I made the pickle fries I bought at Aldi. They were good but a little soggy. I still ate them.
Sarah and I headed to our respective bedrooms. I stopped at Ethan’s room. “Let’s leave at 6:45am tomorrow morning. Can you be ready by then?”
Tomorrow is Ethan’s nuclear studies appointment. Nuclear studies evaluates the hearts blood flow by injecting radioactive material into the blood stream and using a special camera to take pictures. It measures the blood flow at rest and then he gets an injection of dobutamine to mimic the stress of exercise. Then more pictures are taken.
We meet with his cardiologist afterward.
Then in the afternoon, I have work meetings and interviews to do. Man it has been a busy week!
Avery is working on her poster for her presentation about her summer research. She is tired after working all day.
Paul ended work early to be at the hospital with his dad. His sister joined him as well. He didn’t get home until almost 10 pm.
I jumped in the shower before going to bed. I forgot to use conditioner and I tried to turn the shower off by flipping the light switch. Shockingly…that didn’t work at all.
What a long day. The bright side is that it is over. Surgery is done. Dario is safe and feeling better! Yay!
Wow. So, so much going on. I'm so glad that Dario is okay with something treatable!! Keep swimming.... wishing you easier days ahead. Big hugs!
