With my position as a recruiter, it never ceases to amaze me what people say during an interview.

I spoke with someone yesterday in a different part of the country that had been in the industry for 9 months.

“I pretty much have done it all” they said. Knowing this is not the case, I started to assess their skill level.

“Have you drawn blood?”  I asked.

“No”

“Have you monitored anesthesia?” I asked

“No”

“Do you understand medical shorthand, terms like BID or NPO?” I asked

“No”

This tracks, as someone with this minimal experience has not “done it all” in 9 months. It takes about 5 years to become what is considered as “skilled”. I am 28 years in and have NOT “done it all”.

This person asked for the highest wage offered within the range without the experience to back it up. We discussed financial expectations with pay and that the high end of the pay scale was for someone that has learned the skills previously mentioned.

It is a fine line for setting expectations and crushing dreams. This is not an industry one goes into to get rich…..or even just work one job.

We lost Moe’s invisible fence collar. We lost it in our house somewhere. We have torn the house apart looking for it. I will blame Paul even though I am pretty sure I tucked it somewhere. It is annoying because we have to keep a close eye on him.

Moe has discovered his collar is missing and went on an excursion and tore up his feet. I also had to pick thorns out of his side. We have a GPS so we know where he is, but I don’t want him doing something stupid or getting hurt. What a pain in the neck.

I worked late just trying to catch up with Work. I am taking Friday off so I will be extra behind next week.

I was proud of the hire I made today. I really feel like it was the best candidate for the practice. We all worked together to come up with a top deal and the candidate is super excited.  One of the feel good placements I have done. This person is going to THRIVE! Yay! Finally a positive to focus on.
