12/5/25

Zero more sleeps to the most wonderful time of the yes….you can sing that to the Christmas tune. Today is the day! Today kicks off the shopping weekend. Our gift to each other celebrating a friendship that started over 20 years ago as Sarah walked into the vet hospital as my new co-worker.

We quickly bonded. Two little introverts with a sick sense of humor. Yay!

I started the day by reading  a funny little blurb by someone saying:

“I don’t know how much Tylenol my Mom took but I hate crowds,  small talk, people who don’t stand on. I will die before I believe anyone over my gut instinct. I also talk to animals and have a favorite spoon.”

I laughed. I agreed. Ha! We are all on the spectrum in our own ways.

Obviously I talk to AND for animals. They also have their own voices. Totally normal.

I have a favorite spoon. I actually have a favorite spoon for eating certain foods. I have a soup spoon, cereal spoon and yogurt spoon. They are all different. I also have a favorite fork. It doesn’t mean I won’t use other types of forks, I just have these preferences I default to.

Oh no! It doesn’t stop there. I have my favorite coffee mug. My favorite type of winter socks that differ from my summer socks. The material has to be just right. The cut of the sock needs to be just so!  Again, I can wear other socks, just gravitate to my favorites.

Certain materials of sweaters I wear hurt my elbows when I lean on the table, so if I buy a sweater, I have to do an elbow test. I need to make sure the material is soft enough for my delicate elbows. They will get red,  irritated and sore/achey! It sounds so bizarre.

It made me wonder what other defaults do I have that I am unaware of. I will try to pay attention. What defaults do others have? Share your quirks with me. It’s a fun self reflection.

Much like animals, we are creatures of routine. Routine gives us comfort.

Sarah and I had a fabulous day shopping, trying to check into the wrong hotel (opps), eating like Queens until we both got tired and went back to the correct hotel to put pajamas on.

We indulged in adult beverages and shit the lights off for bed at almost 9 pm. I like that she has the same schedule internal schedule as me. Two middle aged women whooping it up!

  1. Love those personal quirks and they are what makes you - all of us - unique. I’m an introvert that presents as an extrovert. I hate getting up when it’s still dark but have to if I want to make a living (most times of the year). I also have certain mug preferences based on beverage type and this also applies to bar ware for my adult beverages. I hate bright lights and like dim cozy light at all times. Can you guess who I am?

  2. And we know someone who can’t eat any ice cream or frozen treat that is on a wooden stick.
