We had a good day today. I work Ethan up at 9:20 for his PT appointment at 9:30. He was in a daze and was extremely tired.he was able to push through PT and kick ass. He used the walker and was able to go around the loop of the floor twice. It happened right during rounds and Ethan had to make all the people move. His tired face was hysterical. He was holding his eyes huge with a blank look on his face. I was laughing and asking him if he was ok.
Ethan had a steady stream of people in all day. He was getting frustrated with the steady stream. He was getting emotional due to the sedation weans that happened recently. This weaning process takes forever. It totally goofs with everything.
He had to have a new catheter put in. Another poke. That sucked but the person that did it was awesome! It went in smooth like butter.
In the afternoon, we strolled up to see our friends on 9 Tower. The reception was like no other. Ethan was so happy to see his friends. He was giving out hugs like they were candy to a baby. He was so thankful for all their hard work. It was heart warming.
They kept saying how nice and warm it was outside. Ethan and I went rogue and went out into the courtyard for a lengthy stroll. We let the sunshine warm our souls. We got to see the bulbs emerging from their winter slumber. We even saw a few people we recognized and said hello too.
We came back and ordered Buffalo chicken wings for dinner. Every minute of waiting for them to arrive felt like an hour to Ethan. They arrived and Ethan was so excited. He was practically drooling. He opened his Buffalo wings (I got a salad) and they had no Buffalo sauce. They were just plain. He was devastated. Remember the drugs being weaned? Yes this caused an emotional meltdown. The meltdown caused him to ask sarcastically “why am I so emotional? Am I pregnant or something?” I laughed at that one. I ended up walking 4 blocks to the grocery store and purchasing some wing sauce. That delayed dinner almost 30 minutes. I got salad so I didn’t care that much. Then I had to reheat his dinner. I got a refund from the restaurant. Problem solved.
In the evening we visited our friends on 9 Tower again after shift change. It was nice to see familiar faces and they all make me laugh. Ethan loved it too. Two of the nurses went on a trip and brought Ethan and I matching shirts. We will twin at some point soon. They are cool shirts from a place on my bucket list to visit, Zion National Park. It was so thoughtful. Everyone is so thoughtful.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a good day for both of you. Missing wing sauce and Ethan asking asking if he is pregnant we can deal withπ€£π.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Ethan is now wanting AND eating wings (after so many weeks when he couldn't feed himself or eat) is just thrilling! Things seem to be getting better and better..... this is everything we all hope for. xoxo

ReplyDeleteGlad it's finally getting saucy over there! I know how disappointed I would have been to open the container and find no sauce -- I would have been emotional, too!
Enjoy the warmth outside today. Good job Ethan kicking ass in PT!
Glad you got to get out and enjoy the spring like weather. Your snowbells are up in your own garden at home. I enjoyed them on Monday. The green little shoots are poking up through the dirt. Keep going forward. Love you both.
ReplyDeleteThe “Comeback Kid”

Nice Weather this week!
Hope you guys will get
outside again in the Fresh Air
And Sunshine!ππ
Does the Spirits Well...
No sauce???
ReplyDeleteWHAT FORM OF TRAVESTY IS THIS, I ASK????
I am heartily insulted on behalf of Buffalo, buffalos, and chickens! That was a Mom to the rescue moment, well done! And the refund.... clutch.
You know, I know these weans and all the changes are so very tough... and the length of time, such a crazy notion no one even thought of, right?
And yet every day I thank God for this kid's survival, for his strength and his courage and his tenacity. Clearly there is stuff to do. I also pray that it gets easier. That his mind (he's so young...) realizes this is temporary, that there are great things lying ahead!
Thank you for this update and yes to warmer weather! Yes to flowers! Yes to spring!
Ethan.... you are a miracle kid, but if you are pregnant you are also a rich kid. I don't blame you for being pissed about no Buffalo sauce. Keep Kicking Ass.
ReplyDeleteThis facial expression is hysterical!
