5/11/25

My Mother’s Day started out a bit rocky. I had to do 2 1/2 hours of work to prepare for my meetings tomorrow. I didn’t have time Friday to do so.

Ethan and I have been chatting about his therapy and he knows he has issues with being focused on time as well as socially not engaging.

Today I challenged him to be more conversational with the family over. We went through different scenario’s of how to talk to the adults. This is something he has struggled with his entire life.

We went over different things he could talk about and I asked him to work on the conversational piece, which he did great with.

He was around family the entire time. He did not retreat to his bedroom. He was mostly polite. He shared his opinions and participated in conversations. Both Paul and I were really proud of him and gave him feedback to support that.

This morning I started opening our mail. I haven’t opened it since Thursday. I got a letter from SSI saying we had a meeting via phone on Tuesday at 10:30. If this wasn’t convenient, to call and reschedule. The time was NOT convenient. However, the last time this happened, I called, waited on hold for 45 minutes for them to tell me they only book out 3 months and if we couldn’t make the meeting, Ethan would lose health benefits. We will make it work. I am not going to waste my time again. It would have been nice to have at least a weeks notice.

To make it work, I had to cancel my PT appointment. I will have to drive to Ethan’s work around 8am (due to the meetings I have). I will have my meetings in the car until our 10:30 appointment. 10:30 is “about” the time they will call me. They can be up to an hour or two late. We will have the meeting. Then I have 2 more meetings after that. Then I will have to drive with Ethan to Strong West for his hematology appointment at 1:00.

I had to rearrange 2 meetings so far, just to plan for the event that they actually will call on time, but typically it doesn’t happen like that.

I will have to text Ethan to come out to the car to have the meeting. They ask many questions and Ethan’s paperwork said he was being evaluated for arthritis, which is about the only thing he has never been diagnosed with.

I was so annoyed but this. What the heck!!!!

If I ever called the government and demanded they do things when I Said they should be done, that would not go over well with them. I understand that they are juggling a lot of cases but it is a system set up for hardship and failure.

We had Mema, Beba, Nana, Papa and Paul’s sister, Auntie over for Mother’s Day. Avery had a funny story about her dorm being on fire. It was actually the laundry room that was right next door to her suite. The school failed to clean out the dryer vent and it caught fire. All is well now and the laundry room is open for use.

We had some interesting and hilarious comments after dinner. I really enjoyed listening and laughing with the wild tales being told.

Beba was armed with physics jokes to Avery.

My mom brought me the special gift of a rhubarb pie. OMG! I know I should share it with the family, but I don’t want to. I will, but again, I don’t want to. It is the most amazing dessert on the planet….next to dirt cake! Thanks Mom!!!!! The pie has the is worth more than its weight in gold!!!!! Yum!

Happy Mother’s Day to all.
