After work today I did my final selections for my trip. I was pleased that I had enough room for my comfy boots. I was just going to bring one pair of shoes (with arch support) but now I can bring a second pair. Yay!
I made sure I brought enough layers to support the menopause hot flash in the event on happens on the plane, I can strip down. But also stay warm because planes can be chilly.
I have my compression socks for the long flight on Friday night, the aspirin to avoid blood clots. I have all my medications and supplements plus the medications in the event I eat something that doesn’t agree with me. Allergy pills in case they have some wonky pollen.
Traveling as a middle aged lady is hard!
Tomorrow I will be working from the airport and the hotel and scurrying to finish up work things so I can relax and pass the torch to my co-worker while I am away. I think he was a bit overwhelmed when I was in Grand Bahama.
I am also trying to make sure the house is in some sort of order for Paul. At least organized chaos.
This excessive rain isn’t helping. Moe came to the door this morning with mud everywhere including his back and top of his head. He was immediately shunned to his crate. Yuck!
Over the weekend we moved a king bed from my mom’s house into Sarah’s room….I mean Avery’s room. I ordered a memory foam mattress topper and it was supposed to arrive today. But….no such luck.
Sarah slept in my bed with me! A real old fashioned sleep over. Sarah and I have shared many beds before. Heather and I have too. It sounds dirty but isn’t……or is it? I am a lady and would never tell. Ha!
We had Ethan’s video visit with the transplant team. I shared with the doctor the article I read out of UCLA. They are pioneering a stem cell therapy program for kidney patients. They target mesenchymal stem cells which are the cells responsible for targeting specific tissues and self renewing tissues specific to a certain area.
Science is so interesting. It’s like magic…but real.
The cool thing is they have to use donor cells to inject into the donor recipient and it works so well that some patients don’t need rejection medication which is traditionally had on kidneys….and often, long term use can cause cancer.
The doctor said that she had not heard of that (really? Cause I just did a quick google search and learned about it fairly quickly) but that UCLA has extensive research and they are refining these types of treatments.
I was a little let down and felt like we are just doing a mediocre treatment compared to this new and shiny, better treatment. There is a number to call on the website. I think I might call just to inquire about how stem cell therapy would affect a patient with dual organ transplant.
It could be worth exploring. I am sure insurance would cover zero costs as it would be out of network. Plus Ethan doesn’t really care for traveling. So it may or may not be something that we could pull off.
With my bags packed, and only a few small items left to include, I feel mostly ready for this adventure. I hope I don’t annoy my travel partners with my fussiness.
I will feel much better once I get my work portion of things settled.
