Today will not be the day we move to 6 Tower. There are no rooms available. This could be “disappointing” but it’s not. Ethan will keep his arterial line another day and then not have to get poked (bright side). Another day in ICU is another day foe Ethan to get stronger before moving. More sitting and walking, gaining strength. We will continue to wait patiently and it will happen when the time is right.
Ethan had the appetite of a champ today. He is really trying to work on his calorie intake so that he can get his feeding tube out. He looked really good today. His color was good, his voice was stronger, he just seemed so much better than yesterday....which wasn’t a bad day either.
PT/OT came and got Ethan up and moving. He did more walking down the hall with minimal support. He wasn’t strong enough to life himself out of bed but he is getting there.
Ethan got to the end of the hall and sat down in the wheel chair for a rest. It was decided that he should graduate to using a walker. Mr. PT car guy raced and found a walker in less than 5 minutes (we timed him).
So then Ethan got a taste of walking with the walker. Another couple days and he may be able to walk unassisted? Who knows?
Ethan sat on the couch for the rest of the day without a nap. He was basically eating the entire day. He spent the day on grub hub ordering a milkshake, chipotle and chips and salsa.
Ethan’s sense of humor is back. He was cracking me up all day. He had a few bits of nausea but they were short lived. He looks good today.
We did find that Blythdale may not accept us because Ethan is on dialysis and covid is preventing them from being able to work around that. He would have to be transferred somewhere to get dialysis and that puts others at risk at the rehab center.
They have a few other ideas. I told them my only criteria is that I will be staying with him. I will not budge on that. They can send us to Texas and I don’t care....but as long as I can be with him, that is what our one and only requirement is. So that is in the works.
All in all, the sun was out and it was a good day.

So thrilled to read these post about Ethan's progress - you guys have come a long way. Hope the wait isn't too long for the 6th floor - we waited a couple of days one time. As you said, more time for building strength and having individual care. I see your own shower and toilet in the very near future!
ReplyDeleteYou are making great decisions and your patience is admirable πΉ
ReplyDeleteIt is sooooo good to see him vertical with that great smile on his face. Patience is going to be your "new" to work on, both for you and him but for different reasons. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and looking forward. Yesterday was another fantastic day. You go Ethan!!!!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! Fantastic! Another great day. Ethan is really kicking butt now. I feel a great momentum happening. I am in love with that shirt and his great big smile. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI just love that shirt! Ethan you look great! Walking with a walker, love to see your smileπ.
ReplyDeletePatti, I found out today that your Godfather Tim works in my building. I had a nice chat with him today. Such a nice guy. All this time and never knewπ€¦πΌ♀️. Small world.
I love this! But Ethan, when you come home, you can't wear that shirt over here on Parma Center Road. We have two mini-donkeys.... they will get worried!!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis was such a good day to read about! It makes me happy!!!! Ethan, do you know how wonderful it is to hear that you're eating and that the nausea is better. DUDE!!!!! THAT'S CLUTCH!!!! Keep up the good work. You are amazing. Not just to me, but to so many people. Praying for continued good progress, but if there's a stumbling block, well, heck... we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and start all over again. Hang in there, handsome!
You too, Patti!!!
