I heard my alarm going off. I woke up from a dead sleep and was kind of dumb-ish. My brain was not functioning on full capacity. We did ok for a group like us traveling. We left at 3:30 am which was the desired departures time with a temperature of a balmy 38 degrees.
We made it to the airport and went to check 2 bags for the group. The lady behind the desk said we needed to fill out our customs forms prior to going through TSA. I had thought we would fill that out for the flight that was actually leaving the country in St. Lucia.
We all scrambled to fill out the forms but we did it. We made it through TSA easily and we boarded the plane.
As we took off, we got a great view of the sunrise. What a gift from Mother Nature. It was like nature’s artwork on display for us. However, it was a red sky. “Red sky in the morning, sailor’s take warning”. Hopefully we will fly away from any weather that threatened our safety.
The airport is overstimulating. Multiple people watching videos on full blast on their phone with country music blaring, rap music blaring a kid crying and the murmuring of all the other humans. Then you have the announcements, the door alarms ugh! While not pleasant, it is the means to get to the reward.
We left NYC slightly delayed. It was up to 58 degrees. Paul and I watched episodes of curb your enthusiasm on the plane. We laughed a lot.
When we landed it was 89 degrees. Perfect. We breezed through customs and headed over to the rental car place. Wow! They did not use computers and we spent about an hour and a half waiting, getting carbon copies of our credit card. Each document was manually filled out in our presence. It was SLOW! We were all a little tired and hungry at that point. We were a bit cranky.
We FINALLY got our car and we played Tetris with our luggage. We got everything to fit but we had bags on our laps.
The roads were rough, drivers impatient and the roads were hairpin turns. Paul drove and he was on the opposite side of the car driving….and the opposite side of the road.
We made it safely to the airport bnb about 3.5 hours after we landed.
As we were driving we were on the lookout for a grocery store. We saw beautiful views of the mountains, the ocean and lots of animals. Cats, dogs, pigs, cattle and horses.
Paul took a wrong turn down a one way street in the wrong direction. That was interesting as several locals were honking at us and flashing their lights at us.
We drove around to several grocery stores but none were open due to the holiday.
We made an order for pick up from dominoes. We ate outside and had adult beverages. I saw a frog as big as my hand and another frog the size of one joint of my little finger.
My drink kicked in and I was off to bed. Phew! We made it!
