Ethan had a decent night. He is keeping things stable. They weaned down again on one of his lung pressure medications. Ethan’s RT buddy over night, talks to him and has talked to him all along. He has had Ethan several times.
When I came back from the shower, I walked into the room. The RT had his back to me and didn’t know I was there. He had his hand on Ethan’s head and was sort of massaging his head, offering him comfort with one hand and holding Ethan’s hand with the other. He was saying things like “you are doing such a great job. You have come so far. When I first met you, you were so sick and now you are getting better. Hang in there.”
It was so heartwarming. He wasn’t actually doing anything with respiratory therapy. He was a comforting soul and encouraging voice for Ethan when I stepped away and the nurse was busy. I have a new appreciation for RT’s and how much of a difference they make. They deal with sputum all day long and most seem happy to help.
We are weaning the vent setting a little more and continuing with PT. Hoping for another good day!
❤💛❤💛❤💛❤💛❤ this is a nice start to the day. We hope you have another good day as well !

Great to hear the good news and so glad the RT is such a nice person. Have a great day both of you
ReplyDeleteThe kindness of strangers very often makes an impact. It is a fresh perspective coming from someone who doesn't have to say anything good or nice yet they do. Ethan's baby steps are turning into nice gains. Keep up the good work ALL of YOU! We love you both and miss you too. Can't wait to hear what good things happen today.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you guys are surrounded by so many caring people. 💕
ReplyDeleteOh, bless his heart, that's wonderful.... I am loving that story of the RT.... and each slight improvement without a major setback is a step toward normal. Cheering you guys on all the time and loving that so many good people are on the team.

I'm so glad you have such a good support system at the hospital! Your blog is a regular read for me and our family now, making sure we keep up on Ethan's progress. Michael asked when he gets to see Ethan again, so we've decided to make a hopeful goal for a summer cousins week! 🤞❤️
ReplyDeleteThis post made my heart melt...what a kind, caring, wonderful person. I’m glad you got to see and hear his words; that must have been so touching. More prayers for continued healing. 🙏
ReplyDeleteThat warmed my heart. As a mom, I can only imagine how much you loved hearing and watching that that interaction.
