🏎1/2 7:05 am

Ethan had a good night last night despite a pothole.  Around 2:00 am he started taking more shallow breaths and his nurse (who is the nurse he flipped off when she pulled out his foley several weeks ago) gave his breathing tube a suction and noticed frank blood from his lungs. Ut oh.

She adjusted some vent settings and ordered an X-ray which was done and was relatively unchanged from the day before. The frank blood dissipated and Ethan went back to breathing normally.

It will be discussed at rounds around noon today. He met his fluid goal over night and is down officially 2.4 liters.   His left arm is about the same size despite heroic efforts to keep that arm elevated. It has to be so sore. Ethan’s face is more recognizable with the reduced swelling.

Ethan had his bath at midnight and was upset during it. I was holding his hand and trying to calm him down while his nurse continued forward. His sheets were changed which is a bit of an effort with him in the bed. Reinforcement nurses come in to help. I have a soft spot in my heart for their sarcastic banter and I totally love it, as well as join in.

One of the nurses said to me, “you never leave, can I buy you some clothes or something? Do you need anything?” I assured her I was fine and we started talking about my new favorite coffee mug. She said that all the nurses were thinking of making a video for Ethan about all the funny things he has done while they were his nurse. I hope they follow through.

We will see what the day holds for us. I am off to the shower. With the holidays, many parents have been leaving and it has been a cleaner, less congested shower. Win!

  1. Baby steps forward again. I think he would really appreciate the video by the nurses and the docs. Love you Both

  2. I think he would appreciate a video of some of the efforts put forth daily. As a videographer himself, he prolly would have a chuckle critiquing it. And just make sure he keeps his sheets on. “Edit edit”! Lol!

  4. Oh my gosh, 2.4 liters is wonderful. Happy dancing for that. And sarcastic banter? Two thumbs up! And while I hate potholes, I'm glad it dissipated, Patti... Prayers for continued step-by-step healing. And you might want some still shots of you and equipment to use to parallel these blog posts... they can become a book of their own. Hang in there. You're amazing.

  5. Sorry about your dinner last night! That sucks but at least you got refunded. So happy to see his excess fluid is decreasing. That’s got to help in so many ways. Keep up the fantastic job you are doing. I can’t wait till both of you are back home. We miss you both so much! Love you.
