And then there were three. Rachel, Ethan and I helped load up Avery’s things to move into Brockport college.

We were in the first bunch of cars that arrived and there wasn’t an established system of what the parents were supposed to do. It was actually a bit of a dumpster fire. No one knew what was going on. It was like they had never done this before. The people didn’t even know who to ask.

Since there was no system in place, we sort of had them do a system that worked for us. We just parked the car and I started directing the people what to do. When a system is not in place, make your own.

I had the guy driving the golf cart pull right up to our car. We loaded the golf cart trailer quickly. Avery road with her stuff and the man. Rachel, Ethan and I walked to the entrance of her dorm. The rugby team was there. They unloaded the trailer and took it up to the second floor in less than 5 minutes. It worked very efficiently.

Avery got her key and was on her way. We were the first ones arriving at her room. Avery got first pick of what side she wanted, what bed, closet and more. Technically it was all the same stuff and set up on each side of the room, but she still got first pick.

We had her unpacked and moved in, in about an hour. I had Rachel, Paul and Ethan write on these little note cards ahead of time. They wrote little notes to make Avery smile.

We hid them all around her room for her to find over the next few weeks, while she went out to her car. Ethan wrote one card and Paul wrote the other. They were meant to be silly and fun and she loved them!

We left her there and off she went doing the thing we have been preparing her for. She is a small little piece of this great big world. She has to find her path. We, as parents, start preparing our children for this day since birth. She is now surviving on her own. ❤️

Her dorm has some cool areas in it to hang out. It has a kitchen area, lounge, it was spacious. The halls are small but how much time does anyone spend in the halls?

We left Avery behind to do her college activities and we went on with life as usual.

We left the parking lot with little incident since we were parked in an area of “no parking”. We made the rules as we went along. We were “those” people today.

After work I went in the basement and saw a basket of Avery’s clothes. I carried them up and put them in her bedroom. Her room seemed stripped of it’s vibrancy.

Avery and I kept I close contact today. I loved it. I enjoy hearing about her new adventures.

Paul said it perfectly. “I am glad Avery went away to school. I am glad it is so close by.”

Today’s take-away was….if you are going to do something wrong, do it with confidence. People tend to ask less questions.
