We finally got admitted.

We woke up this morning with the expectation that Ethan would be admitted in the morning.  I checked his test results and Ethan was Covid negative. I got the call right at 9:00 am.  “We have a room ready. Can you come at 10:30?” I said “see you at 10:30”.  Ethan and I got our things together and set them by the door.  Soon after that call, we received another call.  “We will not have a room ready at 10:30, we will call you when you can come over.”

Noon came and went. Two came and went. Four came and went.  What the hell?  Did they forget about us?

Throughout the afternoon we heard this odd noise.  What the hell is that noise?  After some investigative efforts, we discovered we had a pigeon living right outside of our air conditioning unit.  So I did what any other logical person would do.  I offered it some Cheerios. He or she ate the Cheerios.  I am now coming up with ways to travel back to Rochester with the pigeon. I know....I know..... it could be slightly premature but I just know we will become friends.

Ethan and I are trying to think of a name for it.  I read an article on how to “sex” a pigeon. It seems you have to observe behaviors. It may be a perfect discussion for my “Stay the Flap Home” bird watching club I joined courtesy of my sister in law.

5:00 came and went.  We ordered some dinner.  Right after I placed the order the hospital calls. “We have a room ready. Come to floor 11C”. “Okay, but we are eating first.” We arrived at the hospital about 45 minutes later at 6:40 pm.

We arrived on floor 11C.  They did have our room ready, it just has no bed.  They scrambled and were able to find a bed.

One of Ethan’s nurses came in to give his one of his two iv catheters.  She blew the first vein.  She got it the second time.  She was able to draw some blood work off of it.  Then she had to put the “back up” iv in.  The medication that they are putting him on can’t be stopped abruptly so they put a back up in for the instance the first one has an issue.

She tried a few times and used the vein light or cheat light, which I am sure has another, more technical name but that is what I call it. I can’t help but get frustrated when I watch the nurses struggle. I want to try even though he isn’t one of my species of expertise. I know I have to be patient but damn....it’s hard.

They will come back later and try again. He wants to leave already.  Milrinone has been started.  We are one step closer.

Any name suggestions for the pigeon? It seems fancy and needs a sophisticated name.

  1. Great news, glad he’s getting started! My bird name suggestion isn’t fancy, but I’d go with “Six”. I think he’s there to help and protect.

  2. Love it. Mom had a good name suggestion too. “Morgan”. As in Morgan Stanley and it is unisex. Thanks for reading.
