Ethan is back from surgery and all situated. He has a wound vacuum on the area he had surgery on today to de-cannulate him. A wound vac is a device decreases air pressure on the wound. This can help the wound heal more quickly. The gases in the air around us put pressure on the surface of our bodies. It will stay on him over the next several days.
He had a lot of secretions. They had to suction a whole bunch out of his tube and lungs, but he is now oxygenating well. He skin color looks a little odd to me and his belly feels bloated. His nurse thinks he is retaining fluid. He has had some fluid collection in his arms and legs at various times.
He is back on the paralysis medication because he was fighting the breathing machine and that wasn’t working out so well for him. That will be reassessed in the morning.
I am beginning to run into people I know in the lobby. I also started to get to know the door guards. One of the guards asked me if he could search my lunch bag. I said “why do I look dangerous?” He said “no, I am just hungry.” He then laughed and said “I am just messing with you.” One of the guards is a big, tall quiet man. He gives me a thumbs up when I walk by. No talking. I give him a nod. It’s a nice little friendship we have. I also see the badge nazi at the security desk and avoid her like she’s a bad virus.
Hopefully Ethan won’t try to go streaking in the ICU on his elephant sedatives tonight. Oh yeah. We got rid of some machines in our room. Yahoo!
Oh the badge nazi.. I almost forgot about her lol. She seems like the kind of person who would card a 98 year old man at a liquor store
ReplyDeleteHere’s a 🧁for the security guard..Hahahaha
ReplyDeletePrayers Ethan and u sleep well tonight.
💜💜💜💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏🙏
Visualizing a restful sleep for both of you tonight. I'm sure there will be new developments for both of you tomorrow. Love you!
ReplyDeleteWow, I had a meeting after work tonight...so much has happened! Thankfully all positive! At least you are going down to one name and not one with a “hyphen”😉!
ReplyDeleteHow are Ethan’s eyes? I know you said you were going to have them checked out or maybe I missed that.
You are a rock Patti, good mama. Hopefully Ethan had a enough stimulation today to get a good nights sleep which will help you sleep.
Sending healing prayers. Sleep well.
Hmmm....streaking in the ICU? Sounds like a catchy song title
ReplyDeleteOh my stars, Patti, what a day!!!! You are a one-name "Just call me Patricia" wonder and I am saluting you here from Hilton. I was staying closer to the hospital a few years ago... and when you walk away from the hospital it's a real different glimpse of NYC... and there had been a storm the day before (it was winter) and garbage cans were filled with broken umbrellas! It was such a funny thing for this Hilton girl to see so many garbage cans filled with umbrellas that turned inside out. So I'm praying for our beautiful boy and easy weather for your walks back and forth. And yeah, sometimes parents have to divide and conquer... and that's what we do. Stay strong and caffeinated.
