These are too funny!!!!

It has been a quiet day.  Ethan has had a few moments where he has tried to swing his legs over the side of the bed resulting in an additional dose of sedative.  He is in the process of weaning down so these little boost doses doesn't help that situation.  He was actually holding his legs in the air trying to swing them up and over the side of the bed (which has railings on it).  The one nurse said, "I am just going to lower the bed in case he is successful."

At one point one of the nurses filling in for Ethan's nurse as she ate her lunch came in to help me because Ethan's oxygen had fallen in the mid 70's.  He suctioned Ethan's tube, while Ethan was trying to swing his legs over the bed and turn himself inside out to get off the bed. He didn't care at all his IV lines, breathing tube and everything.  We worked together to get Ethan situated.  This kid is not light.

We had to physically move him up on the bed because he became a crumpled mess towards the foot of the bed. With all the moving around and fighting, as well as a dose of hydromorphone, he became very sleepy.  As this man and I watch Ethan laying there we both realized at the same moment that we had been just starring at this sleeping kid for way too long and he was in fact sleeping. Neither one of us wanted to make a sound to disrupt this sleeping beauty.

He backed away slowly towards the door and I backed away slowly towards the window seat. We exchanged a quiet thumbs up and air high five.  Ethan has been sleeping ever since.

So away he sleeps.  I imagine that tomorrow will be a little busier since it isn't the weekend.  They still haven't picked a day for the biopsy and lung cath yet.  I was told today that he will not be extubated on the day of the biopsy as I was led to believe.  Ethan is so high on his medications that they have to wean him down.

Ethan still has delirium but it is much better.  He is somewhat able to communicate and he is able to be calmed. I can't imagine seeing things that appear scary while being strapped down to a bed.  I hope he doesn't remember any of it.

Neurology came and left.  Ethan slept right through it and gave them zero helpful pieces of information. They have to come back tomorrow.  He wouldn't even let them shine a light in his eyes.  He held them closed tightly.

So far his heart rhythm continues to behave itself.  Yeah!!!!!!!
