I was looking at Ethan when he got back from the cath lab. He is a little skinnier than when he had his surgery 24 days ago. His leg muscles look like shrink wrapped versions of his normal legs. His left arm still swollen enough to warrant a vascular ultrasound. He has what is called pitting edema on that arm, so if I grab his arm with any firmness, indentations of my hands stay on his arm...like grabbing play-doh. The hair on his face is sparse but long and he needs a hair cut but that is the least of his problems.
His battle scars are healing nicely. He is winning the battle. Like any war, it’s not over in a day. He keeps trying. He is kind to the nurses while sedated which I think is like when you have a drunk adult, their true colors come out. They can be a happy drunk, a crier, or a fighter. Ethan is kind and I would imagine him to be a kind and happy drunk based on his sedated actions.
My bright spot this afternoon was seeing him give the thumbs up a couple of times. There really is a lot of similarities between working with kids and working with dogs in a medical setting. Both have a team of people cheering for them and celebrating their successes with them. The celebrations are done in an authentic but overly emphasized way.
It has been a nice couple of hours with Ethan needing minimal extra work. He still has a spotter to make sure he doesn’t pull anything.
I appreciate everyone reaching out about Theo. Avery is a really good care taker and will be going above and beyond for him every single day. His team of people at the vet will totally help him out as well. I have my fingers crossed that the medication we are trying helps him. Then he can enjoy all of his bunny things, like sitting by the fire, eating and somehow knowing when Ferguson is locked up. He likes this activity the best. He likes to lay right outside Ferguson’s cage because it causes Ferguson to growl and get mad. True sibling rivalry.
Another day closer to the end. Another day of healing. Another day of Ethan kicking ass!
Awesome to see he’s more and more responsive. Fingers crossed on his biopsy. Miss you guys so much! We will do what we can to help Theo. I’ll see if I can convince Ferguson to cut him a break.
ReplyDeleteTheo, you need to get better. The garden leaves will be waiting for you.
